Most health supplement ingredients in Taiwan rely heavily on imports, which limits control over their quality and production processes. However, Jiaoqing Biotech stands out as a unique health and nutrition brand. From the very start, a team of professors is directly involved in cultivating pesticide-free, heavy metal-free agricultural products. Their guiding principle is simple: “Local ingredients and natural processes are the core of high-quality health supplements.” Furthermore, they integrate carbon reduction into every product’s research and development process.
With the global push toward carbon neutrality, Taiwan is actively progressing toward its 2050 net-zero carbon emissions target. In this context, Professor Chen Cheng-Nan of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at National Chiayi University has led his team in developing a groundbreaking green plant extraction technology. This innovative process is energy-efficient, time-saving, and significantly enhances nutrient absorption while preserving phytochemical bioactivity. For these achievements, Jiaoqing Biotech was awarded the prestigious National Innovation Award in the biomedical and health category.
Green Extraction Technology and Probiotic Synergy Break Through Development Bottlenecks
Over the years, Jiaoqing Biotech’s research team has utilized AI technology to collect comprehensive turmeric cultivation data, establishing a robust database that covers more than 80% of relevant big data. Professor Chen’s green extraction technology has transformed their purified “AI Turmeric” into a highly absorbable, all-encompassing health supplement.
Professor Chen explained that the primary challenge with traditional supplements lies in poor absorption, which largely stems from extraction methods. Jiaoqing Biotech’s flagship turmeric beverage employs green “ultrasonic water refinement extraction,” a process that is energy-efficient, time-saving, and eliminates the need for environmentally unfriendly organic solvents. Unlike conventional soaking or infiltration methods, which can take days, Professor Chen’s continuous ultrasonic extraction completes the process within hours. This minimizes compound degradation and contamination during extraction and reduces energy consumption as it operates without high temperatures.

Development of Process Parameters for Jiaoqing Biotech’s Green Extraction Technology
The “ultrasonic water refinement extraction” process features modular ultrasonic components tailored to specific plant materials and patented precise temperature control. By adjusting extraction parameters for different plant varieties, this technology significantly enhances extraction efficiency, maintains phytochemical bioactivity, and improves human absorption rates.

Taiwanese Turmeric, Unique Fermentation, and Lecithin Coating Technology as Keys to Market Advantage
Taiwan’s turmeric boasts excellent quality, but its fat-soluble nature and bitter taste present market challenges. Professor Chen highlighted that effective absorption of curcumin requires synergy with probiotics. After testing hundreds of strains, Jiaoqing Biotech identified a combination using Scoby (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast) probiotics fermented with extracted curcumin.
“This method enhances the antioxidant activity of curcumin by four to five times and significantly improves taste, transforming turmeric’s characteristic bitterness into a smooth, sweet flavor while making it more bioavailable,” Professor Chen noted.
Additionally, their ultrasonic extraction process disperses lecithin and reassembles it to encapsulate curcumin, a critical step that dramatically improves curcumin bioavailability compared to traditional methods.
Aiming for Global Recognition with Patented Technologies
Cory, the Vice President of Marketing at Jiaoqing Biotech, emphasized that all products are specifically formulated to meet the nutritional needs of Taiwanese consumers. These formulations are meticulously developed based on repeated medical journal reviews and rigorous testing. The turmeric source originates from a pesticide-free smart farm established by professors at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University. The farm employs AI systems for precision agriculture, from fertilization and irrigation to pest control, ensuring soil health and sustainability.
Beyond turmeric beverages, Jiaoqing Biotech offers probiotics, tablets, and powders tailored to modern health needs. Their patented turmeric supplements are also integrated with lutein, zeaxanthin, and anthocyanins, aiming to provide comprehensive health protection for all age groups.
Jiaoqing Biotech’s patented extraction technology is expanding to various agricultural products, enhancing their value and positioning Taiwan as a leader in health supplement innovation. By exporting this expertise abroad, the company aims to develop supplements tailored to local demands in global markets.
“Our goal is to become a trailblazer in the industry,” Cory added. “We not only strive for corporate sustainability but also aim to contribute to the planet. Starting from the source and cherishing the land, we hope to safeguard the health of both the earth and its people—one day becoming ‘Taiwan’s Nutrilite.’”
